Sikh Bust - Step 2

Posted by Giovanni on mercoledì 26 settembre 2012 , under , , , , , , , | commenti (5)

Ciao a tutti,

Here I'm again with this nice JMD bust.

I've almost completed the torso, I just need to finish the gold shoulders patches.

The jacket has been made using a stippling technique, using various shades to depict the "english uniform" going from sunny skintone to black.

Has been a nice experience and I think I will try it on other busts as well.

Calvin Tan did a magnificent bust using this technique and Hardy tempest does something similar with oil colours, and he is a true artist.

Leathers are done using oil colours, to give the shiny/translucent finish.

Let me know what you think.

Sikh Bust - Step 1

Ciao a tutti,

Has been long time since I've updated my blog.

Many things are happening, the biggest one will be revealed soon.

For the time being I'm painting this splendid bust from JMD, should be a fairly quick painting for my standard.

The sculpture is amazing, particularly the face.

Flesh tones are done, beard as well, maybe some touch up will be done.

Let me know what you think.

US tanker with top hat - Life magazine

Posted by Giovanni on lunedì 7 maggio 2012 , under , , , , , | commenti (2)

Ciao a tutti,

While ago, I found on a friend's blog  a picture from the Life magazine, where a tank crew was posing on a Sherman, and among them one of the guys was wearing a top hat.

I then decided to sculpt this project, and while thinking I asked a friend, Vittorio Arena to build the tank wedge.

He did an excellent job, the only issue is with the cast numbers, which we recently find out where different from the one he did, but this will be an easy correction.

Well, since Vittorio finished the wedge it took 6/7 months before I started to model the figure and I sculpted it over a weekend!!!!

I got so hooked up to the project that I couldn't stop sculpting.

The head is a modified piece from Hornet, the hands and boots are from Friulmodelismo, all the rest is scratch.

Now I have to get going and start painting this little fella, but I'm working on another secret project...stay tuned.

Well I guess I'll handover the wedge to Vittorio so he can amend the mistakes and painting it.

That's all for now, let me know what you think.

Sharbat Gula update

Posted by Giovanni on giovedì 23 febbraio 2012 , under , , , , , | commenti (0)

Ciao a tutti,

I'm still painting this little beauty.

Not an easy task, and is getting more and more challenging, but I like it.

Anyway, I've touched up the skin tone, eyes and I've started the red.

I've used only 4 colours for it, and avoid any orange tone.

Also I wanted to give more of a dramatic tone to the whole figure therefore I used quite a bit of contrast.

Hope you like it, and as usual, please let me know.

Sharbat Gula

Ciao a tutti,

I've started to paint this bust sculpted by Romain Van den Bogaert.

He has taken the inspiration from Sharbat Gula the famous Afghan girl photographed by Steve McCurry for National Geographic.

The sculpture is not a perfect portrait of the girl, but is close, I've manage to made few modifications, like hairs, the red cloth an the nose.

Not an easy piece to paint, so far only the face has been painted, and I've not finished yet, few touch ups need to be done.

Paint is still fresh hence the glossy on the lips and the difficulty of taking pictures...

For this reason I've taken a couple of shots with different light and camera settings.

As usual, let me have your comments.

Gaulthier de Rigny - Painting- Step 2

Posted by Giovanni on domenica 27 novembre 2011 , under , , , , , | commenti (0)

Ciao a tutti,

Thanks to my friends Stefano Borin, Francesco Simoncini and Ivo Preda, I realised that the pellisse was actually dark blue and not green...

I had to repaint it, but instead of stripping all and paint from scratch, I've used a series of filters, washes and inks to turn the green to dark blue.

I'm quite happy with the result and it looks like the hue of the picture.

I've also finished the red trousers and started to outline all the gold embroiders.

Still a lot to do!!

I hope you like it and let me know what you think!

Ciao a tutti,

Finally I've managed to do some painting on my dear De Rigny.

The face, undergarment and green fabric are done, I've also applied a basecoat for the golden laces and chevrons.

I'm really pleased with the results, hope you like it!
