Italian Bersaglieri tanker with L6 turret

Posted by Giovanni on mercoledì 18 aprile 2012 , under , , , , , , , | commenti (2)

Ciao a tutti,

I just finished this very ambitious project (for my skills!!), an Italian tanker with an Italian L6 tank turret during the Russian campaign.

Ambitious because this is my second tank (well a part of it this time) I've ever done; also been able to place the turret with the figure in the minimum space possible and being able to tell a story was another great challenge, last but not least, paint this 1/35 miniature with the tiny details is painful sometimes!

The figure is from Alpine range and was given to me my the owner of the company himself as a gift, I've helped him out with some information about the uniform and he kindly sent me few figures from his range.

The figure is great, incredible details, perfect casting, if I have to find a problem is related toth the double socks, which I had to modify as you can't really tell they actually are double socks from the sculpture and box art, also, the jacket should have more buttons, but this may have been a bespoke jacket, not unseen for officials alike.

The turret and the fuel tank are from Model Victoria, quite expensive bits, but amazing quality and details as well.

The wood box is from Plusmodel and all the tools are plastic kit from a company called Diopark, very nice and you can find all sort of tools.

As for the paint I used my usual technique for the figure, just made an experiment for the leather coat, basically I painted the worn parts with a really light colour, using ochre, Naples yellow even white, when all dried I did paint over glazes of burnt sienna and raw umber.

Talking about the ground work and tank I did apply the technique used by the great modellers, like Mig, Adam Wilder, Mike Rinaldi and all the other great guys that are out there.

To make things easy, I did apply a winter camouflage, this has been the cherry on the cake!

Overall has been great, I loved every bit of this project and I'll try to work on more figure/ tanks project in the future.

I hope you like it, please let me know what you think.

Grazie.

The little horse..

Ciao a tutti,

I'm now intrigued by small scale, and free of rules painting.

Reason why is because I can make experiments, try new things, and learn to be more precise.

Enough of my ranting, this is a gem sculpted by Maurizio Bruno and sold directly by him.

I have to say that is an amazing piece with lot of tiny details but also quite expensive...

Has been painted in oils, over an acrylic base, the technique has been learn studying the work of Danilo Cartacci.

I hope you like it, I did enjoy it a lot.

Ciao.

Titania, Queen of the fairies TINY TINY TINY

Ciao a tutti,

I've just finished to paint this little tiny, tiny figure from hasslefree miniatures.

This has been a huge challenge for me, given the microscopic dimension.

Is all painted in oils, I've tried to use a different palette for the skintones, I hope you like it.

Ciao

Ciao a tutti,

I couldn't stop painting, I had to finish this bust.

Has been a real challenge and I've tried several different techniques, overall I'm really pleased with it.

This is a present for my brother who loves photography and Steve McCurry.

Hey Steve, if you read this post, I'll be happy to give you the figure if you let my brother join one of your workshop in return!! ;-)

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Ciao

Sharbat Gula update

Ciao a tutti,

I'm still painting this little beauty.

Not an easy task, and is getting more and more challenging, but I like it.

Anyway, I've touched up the skin tone, eyes and I've started the red.

I've used only 4 colours for it, and avoid any orange tone.

Also I wanted to give more of a dramatic tone to the whole figure therefore I used quite a bit of contrast.

Hope you like it, and as usual, please let me know.

Ciao

Sharbat Gula

Ciao a tutti,

I've started to paint this bust sculpted by Romain Van den Bogaert.

He has taken the inspiration from Sharbat Gula the famous Afghan girl photographed by Steve McCurry for National Geographic.

The sculpture is not a perfect portrait of the girl, but is close, I've manage to made few modifications, like hairs, the red cloth an the nose.

Not an easy piece to paint, so far only the face has been painted, and I've not finished yet, few touch ups need to be done.

Paint is still fresh hence the glossy on the lips and the difficulty of taking pictures...

For this reason I've taken a couple of shots with different light and camera settings.

As usual, let me have your comments.

Ciao

Ciao a tutti,

Has been a while since I've posted something on my blog, but work, holidays and a long travel have led me away from modelling.

During the past months I've sculpted a figure (stay tuned) and I've painted this figure for a friend, is from La Meridian miniatures and has been sculpted by Pizzichemi.

The cast was good really few bubbles holes and cast seems, the mine handle a little bit to fragile, but an easy replacement with a bit of copper wire.

I've to thank my friend Alberto Cazzavillan for his help in finding the right documentation, thanks so much Alberto!!!

So guys, let me know what you think!

Ciao

Cari tutti,

Giovanni
